cutting the cord
we never wanted to leave the amniotic bliss
of the womb
but we had to move on
it was the natural progression of things
that's why we cried when we had to leave
just like we don't want to leave the arms
of the comfort of a lover
but what else can be done when the pain
outweighs the comfort
release to universe that piece of your heart
they hopefully didn't throw away
release to the world the one
that caused both pleasure and pain
in moments however long in duration
however high or low in intensity
on whichever side of the scale
and release to the sky the tears
from the shift of weight in the heart
when someone takes a piece with them
but despite anger or despair
you'd really chose no one else
to have that piece
of the womb

im glad you feel my poetry conveys such power that you can even tap into it just by reading and never having felt exactly how I experienced the occurrence..

you describe a baby crying for not wanting to leave the womb is brilliant. Comparing it to lovers and how you have to leave when "pain outweighs the comfort" is a brutal image full of honesty. I agree with Merda on the best part of your poem:
"but despite anger or despair
you'd really chose no one else
to have that piece". The sheer honesty portrayed through those last lines leaves the reader contemplating as I'm sure every one of us has been through that stage before. Great work :)

leaving that encasement of endorphin bliss then being spanked and man handled and a tube down the throat to get the liquid out of their lungs to they can breath air must be like withdrawal.. same as losing a lover.. as for the last lines.. my point in those was to get them out before the shit hits the fan as it were.. because when you finally do cut the cord you're in no mindset to say such things.. and I think they need to be said if youre heart was truly ever into it..
