My First Prom

Who knew I’d get this far in life.
I’ve finally broke the family cycle.
I’ve made it to my first prom!
Yay for me!
I feel so happy on the inside and outside.

I wore a dress that you tie around the neck.
It was pink.
If you knew me a year ago I wouldn’t have worn this dress.
I admit I’ve changed a lot.
But I’ve changed for the best.
I wore high heels that had ruffles on them.
I looked like a princess, like in fairytales.

I was all ready for prom!
I was so excited.
I didn’t mind one bit that prom was in a hospital.
The theme was around the world.
That was very cool.

I walked in and all my friends were there.
They told me how beautiful I looked,
And I gave the complement back.
I was nervous though because I didn’t know how to dance.
My friends showed me how.
And I just got lost in the beats.

The courage of speaking up came along.
I told my friend I liked her.
She told me she didn’t know what to say.
I was too late she said.
I understood but was still hurting.
I went to be by myself and tears were shed.
I recovered and new we were better off friends.

I went back to the dance floor.
I got lost in the music.
I felt high off adrenaline, but managed to keep my feet on the ground.

It was that time of night now.
It was time for the last dance.
Oh how I dreamed about this.
I danced this dance with a friend.

All my friends made my night.
I had so much fun.
I’m so glad I went.
Prom ended amazingly.
