Hero no More

She's tiny and alone,
In those arms she's safe.
Always safe, sound, and calm.
"Daddy, never let me go."

But daddy, you left her so-
So harshly, so slowly.
Her hero died away,
Stake by stab,
With painful jabs,
No words to sooth the pain.

"Hug me, hold me, love me!"

Go ahead, the hero was you,
Hug her, hold her,
Tell her she's loved.
Stand up front,
With those strong arms-
That dwindle by the day.
Take again into you warmth,
A daughter left behind.

Prove the fears that darkness holds,
Encased around her heart-
That daddy brave and strong,
Everything that ever was,
Will bring her safety back along.

Fantasies of unicorns and cherry pies;
Why not!
Carry those on your small back-
Shrunken by true sight.
Carry it all, the lies you told-
For she's grown up and seen the light.

No more daddy, no more hero-
Stay away and take with you,
All the pain.
Heartbreak.

Take with you the past-
Of the ghost in your arms.
