The Reasons Why
She works the streets. With her feelings paralyzed. Showing them what’s for sale as they drive on by.
Wary of whom she lays with. For some of her friends end up in dumpsters strangled by swine.
The night she works is not slow. When she finishes one guy two more are in line. As she takes one in an ally.
With her shame that she hides. She lie’s face down on the concrete. And as he moans, she cries.
Her tears being wiped away. By the movements of his tie. He finishes, up’s his pants. And throws a fifty between her bloody thighs.
He leaves her there and walks away with pride. With no one left to comfort her, but the flies. Creeping up and down her legs and still on the concrete she lies.
She pick’s her self up. Walks home and wonders why. Why does she subject her self to this?
And put her life on the line. She can’t find the answer. And up the steps she climbs.
Walking silently pass her supers Apartment. For her rent is due and he takes it any way she provides. She walks through her door.
And the answer to the question suddenly comes to mind. As it looks up at her and sees a mother. Not a hooker on the stroll outside.
She does what she has to. And makes sure her child is never denied. And she knows it’s worth the risk.
As she hugs her daughter. And sees no shame in her eyes.
