seeming young her
eyes betray
a thousand years
she plays the role
ordained by heaven
and men
her one true desire
is the jasmine
scented night--
Lilith, Aphrodite,
Helen of Troy,
and Cleopatra--
identities she's used
in the endless
masquerade
knowing well
the sins of man
her lover only time
but the real pity--
she's never
played herself
living for the day
she can strike
the match
and kindle
the ancient pyre
she built long ago
