Looking Back in the Future
Looking back
at some point in time
Trump will no longer be president
and I'll no longer be a teacher
Sundays destroyed by grading, planning, and fear
Looking back,
at some point in time
I'll sadly remember
how I cried every night for weeks
after my cat died
and comfort myself
with the new cat I'll have gotten
Looking back
at some point in time,
I'll remember how long I stayed in shock
after my mom's death
and finally let myself
feel all the pain
and be okay with it
Looking back
at some point in time
I'll remember when I focused too much on the past
and the future
and realize I've finally
learned to be present
and grateful
every single day
at some point in time

Amen. All the details that make us who we are, over time, can swirl around in different perspectives. We adapt and continue.
And, we write it out like a prescription for our symptoms. Cures? Nah. Just calming the ailments from flaring up.

Good points. Appreciate the feedback as always. As far as being a teacher, I turned in my resignation letter to my district. I may possibly teach again, but it will be in another state, at a different type of school.

Best wishes and congratulations on your decision to leave your current position. I really liked the refrain in this write for each stanza and then its statement of realization and appreciation. I continuously wonder why living in the moment is the hardest thing to achieve for me but I’m grateful when I get to the end of a day realize I’ve only spent the majority of it worrying about the past and the future, and not the entirety of it. The thirds stanza was a bullseye for me currently and Your closing stanza is stellar. H🌷
