An Immortals Confession
Eternity is a long time to wait
for a sun that never sets
the horizon a never-ending bruise
to mark the non-passing
of every never-ending day
Lust turns to ash on my tongue
as unwelcome as the body beneath me
draining of blood, ready for the sun
to set on a life barely lived
among the herd of other short lives
that self-destruct in abundance
Damaged prey begging for death
with a whisper of delight in a dark alley
to be held and crushed so delicately
like a wayward butterfly landing innocently
into the waiting jaws of its predator
And I pray for the setting sun
as each passing century strips me further
of my long-lost mortality
the tally of my love-bites
buried as deeply as the bodies
that were unable to sate my hunger
For even in dying I found no peace
only the hollow ache and curse of despair
coupled with the realisation, that immortality
is truly hell and God is a sadist
for allowing creatures such as I, to exist
