"Doing A Damian."
Hello, brothers and sisters of the Underground. It is I. Interesting story here. So I know someone who’s taking college classes, and had turned in a thesis, or something that they had to write for a grade.
Anyhow, they have to run their work through an AI detection system. The report came back as 97% chance that AI was used. He knew he wrote the paper, and had to go through all the red tape to prove that point.
It’s resolved, folks. My friend proved his case, that the work was indeed his. Here’s the thing, through the whole process they found out the computer is wrong. And on more than one occasion this occurrence happened.
It’s happened so much the university had to update it’s policy because of these cases happening. So I know why they use it, to catch hacks and potential plagiarist activity. So basically this thing has problem detecting people who can actually write. lol.
97%, folks. That AI was used. That means the machine would think the same of us, folks. I don’t know about you, but I don’t know whether to be slightly flattered or extremely pissed.
Cause it means it’s kinda meaningless in certain capacities. If it’s gonna accuse people who can write of using AI. If you can’t write though, you might be discovered. lol.
There are innovators and imitators in the world. All the writers I know here are innovators, we create, we write, and push the envelope.
Imitators try to mimic what we do. For attention, for money, or whatever reason they have that day.
But it damn sure isn’t for writing great material. Their cons, hacks, opportunists, trying to corrupt our craft. So I know I went on a tangent here. As I often do.
Our very own, Fia Naturie, calls it: “Doing A Damian.” When you rant or go off on a tangent with a sidetrack point. If you follow? I bring it up because it’s the title of the write. So I’m giving her credit. Peace, Love, and Lennon.

Author's Note
Late night musing. Shout out to, Fia. For coining the title phrase. Here's you a headline: "Digital world scares an analog guy." Here's Keith with the weather. lol. Could you imagine, Keith, doing the weather? Appreciate you.

This is very interesting Damian, The whole thing is fascinating but sometimes it can be an uncomfortable idea. AI poetry and also music has existed for a while. Its become quite a hype I suppose. I will not be focusing on only the bad ugly side here. I do wish to say two things, one is that I have read about many fake music acts, bands and such, people who list their music but actually this is made by AI, I have read that if they get a decent amount of subscriptions they can earn a few dimes from this. Anyhow I still think its worth writing making music singing what ever. And I will do so until my last days. I have gone beyond the point of worrying, actually Id be flattered if some pieces of my writings would end up in an AI, Its not about me, its about the poetry, My only hope is that poetry and art will keep existing.
thanks for sharing your piece! Greetings and blessings

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Rianne. Glad you connected with the story, my friend. There's positive things in AI, but like most things it's often used for underhanded tactics. At the end of the day a machine has no soul, the human element is what it lacks. Just my opinion. Appreciate you.

Dear D,
This was very interesting, scary and maddening in the same breath. However, “Doing a Damian” can’t get any more original than…doing a Damian. No AI there 😊
Terrific piece spotlighting this growing problem and sweet shoutout to Fia.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, H. I'm glad you connected with the story, my friend. No there isn't any AI there at all. Yeah, had to give Fia a shout out. Always enjoy your commentary. Appreciate you.

I'm on a few apps Damian and on one app it states whether the writer has used the AI auto generated feature, I just scroll by and think what's the point and further if you go on YT bringing back dead artists, I find a bit creepy
The 3rd Beatles track after 'Free As A Bird' & 'Real Love' which was last years 'Now & Then' for the Anthologies, in other words George said it was sh!t haha at the time, obviously he wasn't around this time to voice his opinion but again AI
Anyways that's my little rant 🤣❤️

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Pete. Glad you connected with the write, my friend. That's such a good point, that is creepy as shit. The first couple of times I think they had partial Lennon vocals. But they still weaved into the whole digital realm at the time. Which was probably early AI, now a day's they don't even need the partial vocal. I agree with you, Pete. Great point. Appreciate you.

Thanks for the shout out Damian. A clever piece of writing my friend. "Doing a Damian" should be patented! AI has been around but since COVID, but since then, it's become a household name. It's making people even lazier then what they really are. Plus the dangers of the computer making decisions in real serious situations should not be. Powerful piece my friend.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. Always honored to make your RL. I'm glad you connected with the story, my friend. I agree, it has gotten worse since COVID. I don't trust computers running the show, that's for sure. I saw Terminator. lol. That shit's getting closer to being possible, probably the early versions we never saw in the movies exist now. lol. Appreciate you.

Interesting… I have been accused of using AI by some people… no one in the Admin here… I use AI for images and to analyze my poetry… tried using it for editing but didn’t like its suggestions… my poetry is… was… and always will be mine…

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, LDF. I'm so glad you connected with the story, my friend. Nothing wrong with using it the way you're using it. I worry about the people who abuse it, and use it for underhanded purposes. Appreciate you.

AI will always affect any artistic endeavor the way polyester affected fabrics.

This is an interesting topic that affect everyone in some shape or form. I think if you are transparent that you use AI then it will give a person a choice where they want to continue or not.
I can not believe you wrote "Doing the Damian" that is funny. Thank you for the shout out.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. Always honored to make your RL. I'm glad you connected with the story, my friend. I agree about being transparent about it. I recorded a couple of songs using the Garage Band app. Which is music loops, but you can plug in instruments and mics as well. I used it as away to record a vocal melody I wanted to remember. The words were all mine, the vocal melody was Joey G's. We weren't talking at the point I used the app. So I looped together generic music to put the vocal melody over. But you have to engineer that shit, that's not letting AI write anything. That and AI artwork for my writes, is the most I've done with technology. I did a Damian, again. Appreciate you.

Damian, this was very well put. I think from my point of view that grifters and such can use AI. However, as a writer, to put ink to paper is like the blood flowing through my veins. Like knowledge of any sort. Only time will take it away. Thank you for sharing this. I appreciate you.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Bat. I'm glad you connected with the story, my friend. I agree with you, wholeheartedly. Without a soul AI, can never achieve what we do. Mechanically, it can be taught to write, but it doesn't understand emotions and heart. Only as a definition does it understand those words. It can't feel them. Appreciate you.

The thing about AI, like any computer-generated system such as "spell-check" or "auto-correct", is that there is room for error despite how accurate administrations claim them to be. I am glad he proved his case. It would be such a shame to lose something artistic ( and writing is artistic ) because a damn machine said it wasn't original but manipulated by a computer-generated system.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tams. So glad you connected with the story, my friend. I agree with you, wholeheartedly, it's the irony that is chilling. I'm not afraid though, no machine can do what we do. It can be taught to write, it can understand the definition of heart & soul. But it can't feel it. Therefore it can't replace us. This might turn into a write. lol. Appreciate you.

97%? That is shocking to me. Even though I would never write something with AI, I decided to try it once, just out of curiosity. It was a poem, but not mine. Fortunately AI can't format poetry, so I'm safe, lol. "I don’t know whether to be slightly flattered or extremely pissed" > I would be pissed off - as fuck.
Awesome writing, my friend. I appreciate you.
