Desert Rose

 Romeo once said,
“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”

It’s actually quite cute,
the pale comparison of a mundane flower,
that everyone can get their hands on.
But I let him and Juliet have that moment, you see?
It’s only because he’s never stumbled upon a rose quite like me.
Rare, delicate, protected by thorns and not afraid of the heat.
In fact, I thrive in it, come alive in it.
But be careful, you have to fight the urge to touch me..
Unless you want to feel me come alive in your veins..then maybe we can work something out.
Because I have no fear, remember, I was created in a drought.
If you care for your life,
Then you must admire me from a distance,
because one touch is all it takes, and you’ll surrender all your senses.
I come with temptation, yes, that much is true.
But you’ll never be able to hold me, like you so desire to do.
Fuck the concrete rose, she’s not as impressive as me.
I’m the Desert Rose, the only one you must travel great lengths to see.
But leave me where you found me,
or you’ll soon regret,
because though I am beautiful,
I am venom,
and there is no cure for me yet.
