What If She Knew

is it natural  
to want someone you can't have
to imagine their smell
their taste the times never had
their dreams their sorrow  
someone you hardly know
but every word connects with your soul
 
is it madness  
to build a life in a strangers eyes  
to chase a ghost in waking life
to hear their voice in quiet rooms
and wish they'd turn and see you too
 
is it hunger
the kind that never fades with time
that lingers but cuts you deep inside  
that chokes the circulation from each breath i take
as it leaves me empty  
wide awake
 
is it my single self
looking for her that perfect one
my role seems poetically cursed  
a love lost one never had
is this rythm of thought healthy  
or just sad
 
is it a dream  
or is it a loop continuously playing in my mind
a story told a thousand times
her friendly face her name unspoken  
my mind creates the conversation  
but the words are broken
 
is it fate  
or just a trick my mind has designed  
a figment of my imagination that will fade over time
