not gonna do it

you walked in wearin sunshine for skin
and my world turned yellow
paintin rays across my shadowed canvas
bringin light to everythin I’ve been missin

but I don’t write love poems

your laughter cuts thru frost
like dawn after a winter’s night
warm and merciless
a meltin of light
I collect with my bare hands

but I don’t write love poems

my hands speak a language
you taught them to remember
against black and white keys
each note risin like a prayer
to whatever god
created the curve of your smile

but I don’t write love poems

when you lean against my piano
hummin off key
your dress flowin like music
I desperately wanna play
Bach becomes breathless
Chopin forgets his sorrow
Debussy drowns in the scent of you

but I sure as hell don’t write love poems

in darkness you come undone
your thighs part
your hips rise
where I trace metaphors with my tongue
til you spill like poetry
on crumpled sheets

but I don’t write love poems

time loses meanin
in the moments between
your heartbeat and mine
slower
sweeter

but I don’t write love poems
even when they treacherously pour out
from my pen
