A long forgotten place

Beyond the forest
A library long forgotten
Legends once told
Now each spine rotten

I walked the empty place
The dust settled on shelves
Candle in hand against the dark
Into the scrolls I delve

The light flickered against the wall
Up above the ceiling marked with paint
I had to climb the up high to see it clearly
Golden leaf along the trim to mark a saint

Hidden in a place long sealed away
A supposed hero sleeps
Death and decay can only be seen
Angels and the world weeps

In those pages they tell
The hero shall wake someday
I left that place to its fate
All I can do now is go to the abbey and pray

Author's Note
I do not know what became of the ancient library. When I returned to the forest in which I found it the towering building was nowhere to be seen. Could I have dreamt the entire thing?
