Shadows and Blood

She woke with a start
To a room icy cold
Silent as death
Empty
Her pain throbbing
In the darkness, aching
Demanding to be felt
Her fingers explored
Her bruises
Her scrapes
Until the felt her silken sheets
Slick with blood
Her pale skin
Glowing in the moonlight
And splattered in red
Quivered
Shivered
In fear
As a shadow coughed
And stepped towards her
A gleaming smile
Emerged from the dark
Promising more
