Sometimes
[Sometimes]
In the dead of night, when I'm all alone
Reality seems squishy, the day's strife is done.
Not quite awake and not quite asleep
I don't know if the nightmare is over
Or about to begin
Let me try this again....
In the night season, when I'm all alone
Reality blurs the sounds of the night.
It's just not right, the body is weary
but the mind will not unload.
Again....
I'm all alone chilled to the bone
Alone, alone, reach for the phone
No one to call, no one at all, fall
I'd fall down if I wasn't on the floor
Nose to door carpet.
From here that door looks like a giant portal
A gateway to more dark lonesomeness.
Maybe try one more time...
The party is over and I'm left alone
Away from the lights and the electric groove.
I can hear the crickets over the ringing in my ears.
The darkness envelops me; My only true friend
And pulls me to the floor.
Only one thing I'd like to know
No matter how many times
I write it, I don't get;
Roses, Rainbows, Princesses and Unicorns
Like the other poets
...
As I stare unblinkingly across the carpet
My eyes slowly close and to my astonishment
I see a marvelous Unicorn under a Rainbow
Ridden by a beautiful Princess with Roses in her hair
The majestic beast looks directly in my eyes,
Lifts his tail and drops horse apples all over my carpet
Snorts derisively and in a flash is gone.
Sometimes I awaken on the floor
With a splitting headache and
A nasty mess to clean up on my carpet.
In the dead of night, when I'm all alone
Reality seems squishy, the day's strife is done.
Not quite awake and not quite asleep
I don't know if the nightmare is over
Or about to begin
