Once upon a picture

from the mantlepiece
quivering questions
swirling soot soothes
chimney smoke signals

written by an old berber woman
lava levitates sanctum withered mouth
speaks storm like crawls
through a needles eye

one eyed truth
a fools journey
how wise are those
who have none

and twirling figures escaped
escalating science from silence
in a hazed compound

I saw my sister’s ballet slippers slip
she wants to be a ballerina
when she dances her dark brown curls
emanate lifting alit alive

in the half dark she braids
my white banshee hair
uncombed undone
free unbecome

my brother runs his fishing net
finding crabs among cobble stones
from sunrise to sunset he is there

when sunken moon
hangs laden amidst indigo sky
we become three ribbons
across tides untied adrift

Author's Note
inspired by the  song, I didnt translate anything directly of this the song. This is in a German dialect but it reminds me of other dialects I have heard in my childhood. I love listening to songs in other languages.
