Missed Opportunity
She first saw him at the mall buying clothes.
He noticed her the first day of school.
She liked his hair and smile. He thought, she doesn't hang in cliques...cool! Smart and pretty!
They were both new students.
They had no classes together.
They passed sometimes in the hall.
Omg, his cologne! Dreamy!
I wish I had the nerve to talk to her!
Day, weeks, and months passed by...
they graduated. He heard she got married.
He married a girl from church.
Years went by, and they thought of
each other as a regret for a chance not taken.
Her husband beat her almost daily.
His wife was a demanding ogre.
He made it to the 5, 10 and 15th yr reunions.
She wasn't there. His marriage had ended
and he wasn't shy anymore. She was out
of state dealing with divorce and custody.
She eventually moved back and made plans
to attend their 20th reunion. She looked for him
and then asked about him. "Poor guy killed
himself 5 yrs ago - right after our last reunion."
She immediately went home. Her whole life she
had cried. She couldn't find any more tears.
