Ode to Patti Smith

When I heard the line
Jesus died for somebody s  sins but not mine
I knew Id be chanting G l o r i a forever

Just how she would ignite the stage with her mere presence
in an microscopic microphone Patti sings to me
orphic oracular oracle
we salute you!

my best friend and I wear white muslin dresses
hazed hindsight wailing from each scene
Dancing barefoot,

synthetic sawdust falls as we know
her soul sings
sinks into
our soles

horses
horses
horses

I get payed to speak so I speak
says Patti at a live show
where crowds yell

Speak Patti speak
Break it up!
let us find coral sea weeds

Author's Note
Patti Smith sure is one of a kind to me, she really boosted up the music world being a strong feminine voice. I can write novels about her. This will do for now, song titles used in this poem, Gloria, Dancing barefoot, Horses, Break it up, the coral sea
