Birth of the Low Street

The pub is shut for good
the cinema and the Post Office
closed down
the off-licence struggles
and with barely a whimper
FW Woolworth gave up the ghost
after all those years

The big four supermarkets
rub their hands
preparing to go automatic
at the tills
and leering volunteers
grasp their moment
of charity shop glory

Online shopping booms
while board up men cash in
and between the pound shops
taggers skulk
then leave their mark overnight

The High Street is dead
High Street rest in peace
All hail the birth
of the Low Street
