Made up a mix to get rid of them
Dish soap n apple vinegar
Sprayed on the trees and sidewalk

Now this is where the bigotry seeps in
Man calls 911 said some little black woman
Was causing a stir
Said he doesn’t know what hell she’s doing
Scares him though

Mom went to a council hearing
Said she doesn’t want to label
But she’s black and a mom
Wants to share point of view
Man said he was scared and she had a hoodie

Now let me check to see if what I’m hearing is right
Young girl trying to do something right in her
Neighborhood
But on her street right in her community
She faces racism for doing good

At least the story gets better
The police came and assessed the situation
Told the former councilman that his “neighbor”
Was spraying lantern flies and the man replies
What a weirdo  what’s next

Let me wrap my head around a grown ass man
Calling his 9 yr old neighbor names and
Called the cops on her

Story gets even better
Yale noticed what a smart young lady
Was doing for her street
Had her come on campus and
Put her collection of spotted lantern flys
In their museum
