Ten Thousand Things Alive
I am ten thousand things alive
hiding from impending death,
my labels carefully folded
inside one cracked vessel;
I am filled to bursting
with classifications
and characteristics,
each gifted to me
every new season
by the woefully color-blind
or deliberately misinformed;
I am ten thousand things alive
but you see only
a small dead-man few;
those who seek
the truth in whole need only
shake my contents together
and pour them into a glass,
then drink me down,
reveling in my complimentary flavors
hiding from impending death,
my labels carefully folded
inside one cracked vessel;
I am filled to bursting
with classifications
and characteristics,
each gifted to me
every new season
by the woefully color-blind
or deliberately misinformed;
I am ten thousand things alive
but you see only
a small dead-man few;
those who seek
the truth in whole need only
shake my contents together
and pour them into a glass,
then drink me down,
reveling in my complimentary flavors
