little sister mine
I'm struck by the juxtaposition
between the darkness haunting you
and the flood of light
radiating from your smile
I think it's why you were designed
brightening an all too often shadowy world
with the brilliance
of your inner being
it breaks my heart...this existence
so badly beating your burnished shine
battering the sheer intensity
of your glow
I feel much blessed
being a recipient
of such a precious gift
perhaps the glory of its beauty
might have been sorely undervalued
without the contrast
of darkened moments
or perhaps...
we're not meant to see our own beauty
to recognize the brilliance
of our own light
I wonder...
if instead...
we're here to guide each other
unwitting beacons
in someone else's darkest night
but you were born to smile
to light the world on fire
and dazzle every open eye
to bring beauty
to a weary life
the way you brightened...
