Amphibian

If I ever find my mind agog in heaven
blind as a frog in an earthen oven
I’d hop my ass back down to earth
And see Jack the Clown for what he’s worth

Could heavens exist in the commotion of a threshold
Would sapiens resist the devotion to what they’ve been sold
Through faith I create those things that brings me to believe
True faith will negate the strings on your wings you can’t perceive

I like the crazy notion that every day is nowadays today
I live this lazy devotion that times are always this way
Push my timid tush up to the threatening door
Mourn the twitching toad on the rainy road

who cannot embrace the face of Jacky’s killing floor.

Author's Note
I’ve always been enamored with the idea that the obvious is never the obvious. The idea that time could be a human invention to cop with mortality. Amphibians quasi exist in two different contradictory atmospheres. If time is a human institution then is doesn’t necessarily exist in the universe, which could mean there is only the eternal now… a.k.a heaven on earth. But death is the end of eternity. We can’t connect those dots, so we invent time. It’s like the bad clown, an icon of contradiction and yet the contradiction is part of the fabric of our reality.
