Lost Love

Poem for a Dead Lover

Our young love was naïve and true,
but you went away, leaving me
only with images of what might have been.

When I look into the eyes of a new love,
does your spirit smile from the corner
of our darkened room, knowing
the eyes I see are yours?

When the new girl with angel eyes looks down
to the juncture our bodies and her face
asks if I am the love of her life,
do you already see her approaching death?

Author's Note
Thinking about a girl I loved who died too young. For years I've felt her presence when I'm with a woman but I don't mind having her with me.
