Life Moves In Circles
For those who follow my, Backstage show on YouTube a new episode is up. The link is on my speakeasy here at DU if interested. I’m trying to navigate the waters of being on YouTube, takes some getting used to.
There’s also some chatter through the grapevine about a possible poetry album. Now this is not definite yet, it’s in the works. Mainly because my idea is to read poetry over music composed by a longtime brother of mine. And since he lives many miles away, we’re going to have to do this through technology. So we got logistics to work out, it would seem.
It’s always something digital for this analog man. Unfortunately, he’s analog too, and I’m the more digital savvy of the two of us. Which could mean were doomed, but I think I can manage this. I mean he know how to run his computer studio and has a Facebook account online. That he hardly uses by the way, so I’m not used to being the tech-guy.
I just asked him this a couple of days ago. He’s been being my sounding-board for Backstage, so we’ve been chatting a little more lately. It started to bring back vibes of creativity and I asked him if he’d be interested in composing music for a poetry album.
After a few uneasy moments of silence he replies, “Damian, I’ve been thinking about getting back into playing a little bit again. I just wasn’t sure about it yet”. Then I pitched the idea again, so he knew I wasn’t playing around. I told him it was the one thing I haven’t checked off my bucket list.
In typical fashion he replied, “A poetry album is all that’s left on your list, Damian?” It flew over his head what I was asking, the album was just an excuse. I wanted to collaborate with him for the first time in 32 years. When we wrote our first songs ever as a duo, that lead to are involvement in the music scene.
Without that moment there is no words on this page. I’m not a writer, I don’t exist. He was the first fan of my words who thought I was any good at writing. I was a shy introverted teenager discovering my love for music. He influenced me greatly, luckily for me I influenced him as well. We lost touch off and on over the years, but somehow fate always intervened.
We been talking since Covid happened, that was when we found each other on Facebook. It always seems to be a tragedy happening that brings us back together. September 11th was the other time. Neither one of us are quite sure if that falls under a good or bad omen.
So hopefully, got my fingers crossed, we can make this work despite the distance. As long as we can avoid technical difficulties. It’s funny how life has little surprises along this strange journey. Everything does work in circles.
