As dawn rises in Caracas
As dawn rises in Caracas (near Bolivar Square)
The veil of night lifts
A rooster calls
My dreams to wake
Struggle out of the slumber
Body is talking to me
Knees creaky back achy
Put on my 7 day clothes
Dirty with holes throughout
Put sneakers on as
My big toe peeks out at me
Ready my mind for
What my body will go through
Grab my bandanna stuff it in my back pocket
It’s filled with the toil and sweat of me
And it reeks like me only dirtier
Trek for 3 miles talking to my toe
As the town approaches
Get ready my best song and dance
Lift my hat turn it over
Please put some pennies in
To feed my family
Another day settles into night
Drag my tired bones home
For the 40th time in 40 nights
Made just enough for a pinch of flour
And some sugar
Clothes hang on my shrinking self
Like vultures in the night
Put my 130lbs on the mat
As temps reach 90
All the flour and sugar perspires off my skin
Just laid my head into nightmares
Before I know the rooster calls again
The veil of night lifts
A rooster calls
My dreams to wake
Struggle out of the slumber
Body is talking to me
Knees creaky back achy
Put on my 7 day clothes
Dirty with holes throughout
Put sneakers on as
My big toe peeks out at me
Ready my mind for
What my body will go through
Grab my bandanna stuff it in my back pocket
It’s filled with the toil and sweat of me
And it reeks like me only dirtier
Trek for 3 miles talking to my toe
As the town approaches
Get ready my best song and dance
Lift my hat turn it over
Please put some pennies in
To feed my family
Another day settles into night
Drag my tired bones home
For the 40th time in 40 nights

And some sugar
