Worlds Collide chapter 1 (Introduction)

Our universe is made up of an infinite number of worlds or multiverses, which are continuously being created ever since a single singularity decided to expand into billions of galaxies and stars. This all started more than thirteen billion years ago (Sol-Earth time) at a moment in time some refer to as the Big Bang.

With each disturbance in matter or in time, with each decision one makes, with each event that transpires, a new world is constantly being created spinning all on its own, adding more and more worlds to the sheer numbers of our infinite multiverse.

These multi-worlds all exist on their own like bubbles floating in the space-time continuum, not interacting, each with its own history and consequent future.

Every now and then, a cataclysmic disturbance occurs that pushes some of these worlds to collide; a massive supernova, a collapsing black hole or two giant galaxies colliding until their black holes merge to form a much bigger one.

Such events cause ripple effects, forming super gravitational waves that rip apart the fabric of time. When this happens those multiverse bubbles collide, changing the laws of physics at that exact moment. These rippling effects keep on repeating for hundreds of cycles until the wave gradually dissipates.

That exact place at that exact time is called the Nexus. It is where worlds meet, where time shifts, and where lives change. No one can predict the effect of these cataclysmic events. Only the time and place where these multiverses are about to collide can be relatively determined. And, only a few in the universe who have this kind of knowledge are able to estimate such occurrences.

One such species are the Bores. They are an ancient race, born more than twelve billion years ago, right after the second expansion of the universe and two of the Bores are about to witness this unprecedented event.

The two Bores float on the surface of a giant blue star. This is the place where many of the Bores live, and where many come to die. This is the place where they feel most comfortable. They can blend in the star's  photosphere and use its energy to feed. On the visible spectrum, they look like blobs of blue light. Their bodies are made up of pure energy, sparkling and hissing as they come closer to one another.

The cataclysmic occurrence is about to happen and the two Bores are very excited. Such an occurrence has not been seen for thousands of years. One of the Bores is almost a million years old, and he had only witnessed a similar event twice in his lifetime. As for the other Bore, she is only ten thousand years old. On a cosmic scale, she is practically in her teens.

Like 90% of the species in the universe, the Bores are gender binary, a male-female society. They used to be an aves species, bird like in appearance, but they shed their delicate bodies as they evolved, transcending into a proto-plasmic form more than five billion years ago.

The two Bores want to witness the phenomena without being seen. The Bores always prefer to be inconspicuous when they observe other species. More than a billion years ago, the Bores decided to retreat to distance stars where they could pursue their thirst for knowledge without being disturbed. They have not been in contact with anyone for millions of years. They prefer not to. They don't like to interfere with the development of other species if they don't have to. The universe is complicated enough without them having to make it worse. But, today is an exception.

The use of language or speech has not been used by the Bores for billions of years. How they communicate is a mystery to many. Bores can speak on a sub-transient level, across vast distances, but this time their proximity is much more useful. They want to make better use of their abilities. For what they are about to see requires their undivided attention. They need to combine both their energies for this task.

The old Bore tries to teach the youngling how to observe this event. He has been her master and teacher for many years. She was honored that one of the great ones had taken her under his wing. She has learned a great deal from him and is grateful for everything he has shown her. Deep inside, she also harbors some affection for her mentor.

Love is not strange to the Bores. As a matter of fact, it’s what defines them. Their love for their own, their love for all species in the multiverse, their love for the actual universe itself, is what keeps them going. It’s what they feed upon. So, it’s natural that she too would harbor such feelings for her mentor specially when he is so close to her right now. He is holding her close.  His energy is surrounding hers as if nothing in the universe exists but them as they observe this phenomenon together.

“Have you been able to identify how many worlds are going to collide?” she asks her teacher.

“Yes, I have,” he replies, “the disturbance is about to affect at least four.”

“Four worlds at the same time?” She almost cries out in whatever form of excitement the Bores express. His body close to hers fuels her excitement as much as the information he gives her.

“Yes, this is very interesting,” he cannot help but express his bewilderment as well. “I have not seen this happen in a millennia. I am looking forward to seeing how this will end.”

Confused she enquires again, “But you said we are only able to predict when and where this is going to happen, but not how it is going to end.”

“Of course, my young apprentice,” he replies, “we cannot know how it is going to end. We can only wait and see.”

“So I gather you have pinpointed the time and space which we will be observing?” She always has been a curious one. Precisely why he likes her. He chose her to be his apprentice from among many of his kind. As a student, she has a lot of potential not to mention a very unusual aura for a female of his species. Even in his old age, he cannot help but feel attracted to this young one. He loves how she crackles whenever he is close to her. He can't help but feel the tingle going through him as they communicate.

“Yes, I have,” he answers, “But what is curious is that the nexus is going to affect four individuals on four different worlds at the same time.”

“Oooo… How exciting!!!”

“Very exciting indeed,” he adds, “what’s even more exciting is that the nexus seldom touches an organic living form. It would be very interesting to see how these organics will react to the shift in time and space that is about to happen.”

“Tell me more please?”

“Ok, this is what I managed to find out,” he begins to explain.

“The first world we are about to observe is Multiverse designation 1-57901575. The place where the multiverse is about to collide is going to be approximately close to a red dwarf star named, Sol. More precisely on the third planet commonly referred to as ‘Earth’. It’s an M4 class planet, 71.19% water, six large continents.  A new technological world, no space travel capability as of yet.  Hydrocarbon combustion technology used for transport with a population of roughly 7.454 billion. The nexus point is going to be a human male by the name of, Jonathan Cole. He has two children and a companion or as they commonly refer to her, as a wife.”

“A wife?!  Mmm… this is even more exciting than I thought,” the young student interjects, but the teacher continues with his instruction.

“The second world is Multiverse designation 2-468908658. The place is the fourth planet of an A2 class star. It's an O type water world, only 15.64% land.  Hundreds of scattered islands each a states of its own, constantly waring among themselves. It is a post technological world, sail power used for transport. Neither steam nor electric energy has been invented yet. Population 2.2 billion. The nexus is again localized on a humanoid male by the name of Dolan Drakonan. He is a minor nobleman, a politician, an ambassador, a writer, a poet... quite the adventurer."

"Ooo.... I like this humanoid," the young female Bore interjects again.

The older Bore laughs. "I knew you'd like this one," he says, "you've always been attracted to the wild ones and this one is as bad as they go. Now be quiet and let me finish with the lesson." Smirking inside he continues.

"The third world is Multiverse 3-4234799. According to my calculations, the collision coordination is about to happen on a H class planet orbiting a binary star system. It is a dry, desert planet, less than 11.67% water with two large continents. It is another post technological world with a population of less than 560 million inhabitants. The nexus is also a humanoid, a soldier by the name of Warg, Son of Sawara. He is a sergeant in a warlord army; one of many scattered on this planet.”

Waiting for her to comment once again but when she doesn't he continues with his explanation.

“The last multiverse we are about to observe is Multiverse 4-13466457476, more precisely on a giant blue star system with seventy-eight planets. The majority of the 84.3 billion population live on thousands of floating cities on the largest planet in the system, a B4 gas giant, 84.89% hydrogen and 13.97% helium gas. This is an advanced society with space travel and anti-gravity capabilities.

“Now this one is going to be tricky because the Nexus is going to be a man named Kaon Vorgan. He is a member of an ancient order, a knight of some kind and a retired general of the Mannorian Empire. However, he is currently living on an asteroid on the rings of another planet.”

“Why is this going to be tricky?” She is curious as always.

Patiently, he tries to explain. “Because even though the Nexus is the humanoid himself however I believe this individual will probably be moving across a vast area of space, and the tricky part for me is how I can keep up with my observations without losing track of him.”

“I think you'll manage,” she assures him of his capabilities. She wasn't worried about her teacher’s abilities. He is one of the most brilliant minds of her kind.  Only she is curious to know more about those humanoids. “What I find puzzling is why the Nexus is going to be solely concentrated on those four? Why are they the epicenter of the collisions?” she asks.

“Now that is a very important question,” he replies, “it is because those four individuals are basically one and the same.”

“WHAT!?!?”

“That is right.” A teacher always loves to show off in front of his students.  He is no exception, but he tries to explain. “You see, my dear, when multiverses diverge into separate worlds, from that point onwards, every event, every matter, every consequent future starts to change.  However, in some instances, or at certain points, in this case certain individuals, it remains constant. It's rare that we find so exact a match. They are almost exactly the same all the way down to their DNAs. Maybe that is what will attract the multiverses to collide at that nexus in the first place. It’s like a magnet pulling those worlds together.”

“So you are telling me that we are looking at the same individual?"

“Yes and no. Physically, they are the same, but physiologically they are not. You have to remember that those four individuals have had different histories, different backgrounds, different up-bringing, and will definitely have different futures,” he replies.

“So what are we expecting to see when the worlds collide?” She can’t stop asking more questions.  “…and how are they going to react to it?”

“Now this is what we are both here to see,” he replies, “this is the joy of life, to see and experience the unexpected. If we know all the answers then what is the point of living?”

“I can’t wait to see what you are about to show me,” she said before finally immersing herself in her master’s essence where she wishes to stay forever.
