nothing amazing
like the sun in the window
of a second hand store
or the clouds parked in
neutral and waiting for
a song by Judy Garland
nothing amazing
in the way ears hear the
last breath of the dying
and then go shopping
the way eyes melt like
candle wax when the
high is gone
nothing amazing
walk along a shoreline
pick up handfuls of sand
million upon millions
grains of sand
like the stars above
between your palms
like all the tragic, useless
wars fought in our history
like all the knowledge lost
in the library of Alexandra
nothing amazing
but still
the sun can be a blue
smile
true love can stop time
for a single second
a simple act of forgiveness
or charity
that every breath may be
the final flower we leave
behind
...now that is something
really amazing
