Intergenerational

Jaded for a moment
A fix to clear the air
daughter forced to foment
In her mother’s disrepair

Blood as thin as poison
Words as smooth as wine
She was cast aside, like me
It followed down the line

Her father died a hero
Her mother more cutthroat
She suffered just as I did
In abuse, her life was wrote

She had a chance to end it
There were other paths to follow
She chose instead to lend it
In her scorn, I’m left to wallow

She never gave me pity
Was apathetic to my plight
She never showed me comfort
To get her love, it was a fight

Over time I learned to settle
With the hand that I was dealt
But I knew it couldn’t continue
She had to know just how I felt

Instead of understanding
She defended every word
She said I should’ve been stronger
And that my feelings were absurd

She said she was forced to have me
That she should’ve stopped at one
just deal with the life I was handed
And with me, now she is done

It hurt, just for a moment
But It’s the clarity that I need
Water has more value
Than the tribe in which we bleed

Now the river’s lain in silence
The ripples glide to still
I’ve forged a path of healing
I’m a soul of my own will
