Feathers of the Same Bird

Feathers of the same bird,
One plucked at the tail and the other from the wing.
Singing the same song,
Falling at different speeds.
The tail feather glides gently down,
The wing feather flies with the bird just a moment longer.
The tail feather reaches the ground,
The wing feather peaks among the clouds.

They sing in harmony,
One soft and one powerful.
One escapes the nest,
The other clings to the side of its mother.
Why did the tail feather let itself fall amongst the leaves and sticks?
Why didn’t it fly alongside the bird?
The regret of leaving them,
Yet knowing it could not stay any longer.

It was preened out,
Plucked from the bird by its own beak.
It didn’t need the tail feather to fly,
It has the wing feather to push powerfully at the wind.
He misses the tail feather,
But she is among the leaves now,
Peaceful and safe.
The wing feather looks longingly,
As it flies along with the birds rhythm.

They weren’t birds of the same feather,
But feathers of the same bird.

Children of the same blood.

Author's Note
I do not blame you tail feather, you were always the one who steered me, led me. You were a beautiful yellow among the black feathers, I miss seeing you as we fly, as we nest, as I wake up for school. I’ll text you every so often just to say, I fly for you, tail feather. All because of you, tail feather.

- Nixprty is just a little wing feather missing his big tail feather.
