Small Town IGA

Small Town IGA

They always loved Derrick at the IGA.
Derrick worked alone as the small town's butcher each day.
He was always there and he loved working his shift.
Derrick was reliable in spite of seeming adrift.

Some thought Derrick was odd being such a quiet guy.
But most felt Derrick was just a little bit shy.
Some were a little leery with how he worked with the meat
seeming almost obsessed with the process,
cut, slice, package, repeat.

Customers liked Derrick.
They were always pleased with his cuts.
Derrick had a way of telling stories about the blood and the guts.
Some would say, “Derrick! You should get your stories out there!
Try to publish perhaps! Your gift is something to share!”

Derrick always told them that he would think of doing so.
“Free time is hard to come by as all of you know.”
After all, he was working so much at the IGA
and then working late into mornings hunting his prey.

This is Derrick's story I am sharing with you.
A small town butcher and the things that he liked to do.
He would cut up the meat.
Cut, slice, package, repeat!

The customers buying the evidence,
listening to the stories Derrick would share,
consuming his kills all the while unaware.
