Parallel

Here we are together, my love
and there’s that look in your eye
You tell me I’m the one you want
I am the luckiest guy
The bridge of your nose wrinkles just
before that smile grips your face
It lets loose all those butterflies
I feel when we both embrace

Our hands fit perfect together
and our heartbeats run in sync
Maybe some things were meant to be
Feel free to tell me what YOU think
We’ve been in each other’s orbit
as two strangers our whole lives
Pretty much living parallel
longer than both of my wives

We know all of the same people
and even lived right next door
But never noticed each other
What… Three whole decades before
Facebook says we’ve been friends for years
and you’ve read all my stories
You never thought you’d end up one
So late in our damn forties
