Freedom
I sit with the wall that blocks us all,
The wall of pain, shame, heartbreak, guilt,
The vines of self sabotage and barriers covering the brick work
Our bodies feel the turmoil of hitting our heads against this wall
My parents done this, my partner done that, I should have done this, why did I do that
The armour of martyrdom and the thin veil of victim hood keeps us sitting with that wall
But what if we stood back from that wall, what if we changed the channel on the programming, tapped out of the endless maze, the tactical virtue of those at the big tables
What if all we really needed was within our hearts, within our souls, buried deep under what our parents wanted, what are peers deemed as acceptable, what the world tells you what you need...the makeup, the surgery, the car, the partner that ticks all the boxes, the lifestyle
What if the beauty is in the gratitude, what if the inspiration is in our silence, what if the freedom lies within letting our minds settle and for our bodies to just be, what if we're neither the mind nor the body.
What if none of this matters, the argument with your neighbour, the confrontation in the street, the ill look from that stranger, the misunderstanding from your boss,
What if all we will ever have is now? What if our aging self looks back at the photos of our lives and then finally then realises that none of it mattered and all that was real was love, all that mattered was the time we spent with those that we loved, the tender moments we shared with soul connections, the loss of time during the flow of our passions,
What if we were free the whole time but was so distracted by our thoughts, the media, the news, the voices of those that do not truly matter...
That wall would soon become a small brick
under our feet and we could finally see the sun rise to Illuminate another chance to start again
