First Lesson

I told him to pretend he's me
and roll us on over that hill
The kid maybe fourteen  years old
Perfect time to teach him this skill
He was nervous as hell at first
and stalled the engine once or twice
He'd never squeezed the wheel before
or knocked around those fuzzy dice

He's got two feet and three peddles
and some tread still left on the clutch
We're teaching him to make things go
and how to find just the right touch
The first gear into number two
while we build up some momentum
Right before we find the dashboard
cause first is the next gear to come
