Dear Stewie

Why wouldn’t you think she passed away
when she hasn’t ever returned
The same fate befallen others
whose time with our pack has adjourned
I saw her today, dear Stewie
In the confines of a wheelchair
I understand the fears you face
and it’s more than my heart can bear

She’s in a convalescent home
after breaking both of her feet
Right after losing your mistress
when our dog pack was once complete
I seem to be last man standing
and you’re worried I’ll follow suit
Every time I depart from home
and what all that would institute

The shimmering light in your eyes
telegraphs the fear in your heart
The grizzly nature of your face
is merely a facade to start
Fangs behind a lower black lip
and a ferocious underbite
Masking your teddy bear nature
and gentle behavior despite

I promise she’s coming back home
even though you don’t understand
You know the words out of my lips
and internalize each command
There is no context for this though
except what we’ve seen in the past
I swear to you she’s on her way
and your reunion’s coming fast
