Pick 6

Imagine what it would feel like
if the world were screaming at YOU
The stakes were high on the grid iron
and this all happened in plain view
Caught the pass from their quarterback
and all you have to do is run
while arena lights and the moon
have already replaced the sun

It might take you a split second
to realize what you've got in your crook
And you can't take off fast enough
if you take that second to look
Left knee, right knee, left knee, right knee
as cleats lobby for more traction
while hopes and dreams of young and old
all hinge on this very action

With more yards than a landscaper
and that cage that's strapped to your chin
Shoulder pads and jersey numbers
all gunning for the same pigskin
You stay ahead by leaps and bounds
and we're going out of our mind
As the path of least resistance
is the route you're looking to find

Right foot, left foot, right foot, left foot
as hysteria sweeps the land
Their offense continues the chase
now your expertise in demand
Picture all this in slow motion
as you stay barely out of reach
And more than just YOUR ass is clenched
Leaves the rest of us without speech

The play is over just like that
as the entire region explodes
A hero and a villain both
depending on which episodes
Imagine the clock has run out
and that THAT decided the game
I imagine that's a feeling
not many of us can claim
