Chatterbox

Oh dear
I’ve asked too many questions
I always seem to forget
When a sentence should end
I see why
You’re tired of me

You stare at me
I ask again
You ask if I’m manic
You close the fridge door
You’ve been holding the handle
So hard your knuckles are white

I say I’m not
You turn your head
Looking into the dark dining room
I see now the conversation was over
But I ask again
Because I can’t seem to remember
When a sentence should end

You let out a cry
It’s deranged and pained
Like a snared animal
I feel it again
On the tip of my tongue
You’re gone before
I can ask again

It’s quiet
Never silent while I’m there
You never understand why
I wasn’t like you
I’m half of you
Made from you

You handed me
Mania and shards of glass
Born with green eyes
A tongue and teeth
Too large to fit in my mouth

I must be crazy
To ask over and over again
To sleep in the heat
To close my eyes around you
Oh dear

My apologies.
