the edicts of the land declare
the verdicts of the wind
the fury of the mind acquits
the jury halt and blind

the swift appeal bears barren fruit
the gift of conscience ruined
no justice for the broken reed
armistice wars monsooned

tomorrow is a rotten bet
to borrow from the lie
no pity for the fool who seeks
a city in the sky

no arguments against the rule
no monuments to peace
no recompense for reckless pride
no common sense increase
