A soft shift in perspective
I'm too broken
to feel much
right now,
and asking if you'd take
a rain check seems
really weird
even for me.
I barely like myself enough
to smile with my eyes
when I see you
(but I do)
I'll walk with you
a while,
though
right now,
if you'd have me along
the cacophony of boots crunching
through leaf litter
on a perfect summer day
a tandem song
in our minds
and the way
a soulful voice
makes the little hairs
on our arms stick up
and how it all
feels like a breeze
through a copse of
maybe
sounds kinda scary
if I'm being honest.
But I'll walk with you
a little,
to a quiet peak
where you
roll your eyes
because I'm bitching
about the incline
you ask me
why I cover my mouth
when I laugh hard
and I reply
'I don't know.'
I just don't know.
and if your hand grazes
mine on accident
I might
snag your pinky with mine,
and swing our fists
as if we were 10
on a playground
before the world
turned real.
and before I
chicken out
and hide in a
dark corner of my mind,
I'll walk with you
right now
this second
to the place
that oversees
hidden worlds
and stand
awestruck
by how beautiful
things look
can look
from a
new
perspective.
if you'd have me along.

Re. A soft shift in perspective
You have a much idyllic way with Romance, and loud thinking, when your words give sweet echos to the reader.as you let your pen wander with good vocabulary.
Nice work.............i am pleasured

Thanks
I feel kinda delicate right now, I might have to sidestep big feelings for a while and just sort of inhale soft feels from the edges.
Know what I mean?

Vulnerability is the strongest trait that anyone can possess and demonstrate. Good for you!
You can walk with me anywhere.

Betty,
Really enjoyed how you walked through this one. Loved it!
Favorite line: and swing our fists
as if we were 10
on a playground
before the world
turned real.
Enjoyed!

Thank you D2D. I’m glad you liked the imagery.
I wanted to parlay its innocence, and the pinky-swing seemed to be a good fit.

I could imagine that. The sight of hawks, mountain laurels, wild flowers, or streams drawing conversations in different lines. Seeing things anew through another's eyes. Sometimes off the beaten path is the truest way to go. 🌼

"I went into the woods because I wished to live deliberately."
Gah, AJ, your review is better than my freakin poem man. You pulled out the mountain laurels and I'm swooning in nature-esquesness... that isn't a word. I can't even pretend like it is.
But yeah. You might be right. About a lot of stuff.
(You gotta be careful on those wooded trails, buddy, I might be able to beat you up.)

(Lol, from holding pinkies to punching my lights out. You go zero to 60 in what, 6 seconds?)
I just know that when I hike, I clear my mind. I see what's important differently. idk. Just don't like following the herd.

"You go zero to 60 in what, 6 seconds?"
Ah, so you understand my entire personality.
(It's more "All go, no stop," but I'm at top speed six seconds after I pop out of bed so that's pretty apt)
I like your perspective AJ.

Came for the (truly) selfish motive of reciprocating your comments on my work to date, but Betty...
"the cacophony of boots crunching
through leaf litter"
are you fucking kidding me? Before even finishing the piece, I'm staying for this shit. Impeccable phrasing and outstanding word choice.
In Kind Regards, Write On

Dear B,
This one’s a beaut! I loved the walk and the imagining of what it would be if things were “normal” whatever that means? At the very least less mentally chaotic. Soft touches and the silence that can say volumes. Really lovely write. H🌷

Thank you Hon.
I’m trying to get to this place. I can see it in my mind. Just trying to manifest some good shit, some peace and tranquility.
I appreciate you.
