shattered

I'm looking back
things you said
& what you didn't

realizing
how much more powerful
was your silence

I don't give compliments
but you deserve them

did I
really
they felt so beautiful
caressing my fragility
it was the juxtaposition
that threw me

to be so loved
& so abandoned
shoved into a glass box
dark with self-doubt
clouded with anxiety

while you sat
just beyond reach
swirling the ice in your tumbler
watching me
silently

you could have said
done
something
anything
thrown me a clue

but no

you kept your distance
tossing crumbs of love
in my direction
withholding the feast
waiting in plain sight
at your feet

caught you off guard
didn't it
when I shattered the glass
heading for the exit
instead of reaching
for you

surprise, babe...
