unraveling into evolution
the sky fell a little that day
sun shrouded in veils of charcoal grey
as I held tatters in my trembling hands
watching them dissolve
fading away
until I found no more solidity
& reluctantly let go of the dream
the hopes of an us for eternity
really...how long is that anyway...
years of conversations & plans
future lives combined
no longer alone in the dark
stitching together two weary hearts
a meeting of two haunted minds
you brought your reality
I handed you mine
unknowingly
I offered more than I had to give
you took it
all of it
demanding even more
& it was still never enough
I began to unravel with the constant demands
losing sight of my truth
my sovereignty
shrinking into miniscule pieces
at the brink of cataclysm
there came a moment of perfect clarity
the decision presented itself
in all its agonizing brutality
forced to choose
between loving you...
...or loving me
it was the right choice...still is
