Expectations Unsettled

She hoped for love, but got hate in return,
Her heart burned while his indifference burned.
She longed for joy, but was handed despair,
She tried to hold on, but it seemed unfair.

She had high hopes, but he gave her so little,
His actions cold, his words a sharpened chisel.
She withered away, as he tore her apart,
Her love unrequited, her wounds an open chart.

She was on fire, but he poured on more fuel,
She begged for mercy, but he played it cruel.
She craved for so much, but he gave her so little,
Her soul shattered, her spirit brittle.

Each day she died, as he killed with his hate,
Her heart a dark void, her mind in a disarrayed state.
She was a lover, but he gave her only pain,
Leaving her scarred and never the same.

She was expecting love, but he gave her hate,
She was expecting happiness, but he brought her fate.
She was expecting so much, but he gave her little,
Slowly erasing her existence, leaving her brittle.
