Reconsidering Mania

Perhaps one adds to the happiness of the World
by being miserable -
let me explain.
There is only so much joy to go around
and it is far from shared equally
so, taking too much for yourself may deprive others.
Feeling good may be relative,
and some easily feel better than someone else,
if someone else is unhappy.
Then there is the concept of schadenfreude,
some taking pleasure at others’ misfortunes -
perhaps, being unhappy makes others happy.
I could tell you about why I’m feeling miserable,
but it might just be that happy people are sick of hearing that one,
and quite frankly, have their satisfactions to enjoy.
The tale is neither epic, nor a brave struggle,
it is not a story of great tragedy -
it is a list of shortcomings and failure.
Insanity, not a light burden to bear,
best kept to oneself -
just hope for better times.
