A Recovering Love Addict
Im done with love
I'm kicking the habit
All that sentimental bullshit
You can have it
Dont want your affection
To get me high
Don't need more reasons
For me to cry
The euphoria was fleeting
Never lasted that long
Just an addict hooked
My will wasnt strong
Fiending for your presence
When you weren't around
Cloud hopping is great
Until you crash down
Trapped in a cycle
Of highs and withdrawals
Giving my dignity away
Without a seconds pause
Im breaking the chains
Taking back my power
Rising to my feet
Will no longer cower
Wont remain a slave
To the intoxicating lies
Stab my own heart
Until the addiction dies
I will no longer be codependent
I'm kicking the habit
All that sentimental bullshit
You can have it
Dont want your affection
To get me high
Don't need more reasons
For me to cry
The euphoria was fleeting
Never lasted that long
Just an addict hooked
My will wasnt strong
Fiending for your presence
When you weren't around
Cloud hopping is great
Until you crash down
Trapped in a cycle
Of highs and withdrawals
Giving my dignity away
Without a seconds pause
Im breaking the chains
Taking back my power
Rising to my feet
Will no longer cower
Wont remain a slave
To the intoxicating lies
Stab my own heart
Until the addiction dies
I will no longer be codependent

Fantastic! Strong, free spirited, independent, powerful. Great job in capturing all those emotions into one poem.

I really hate lables...we all think this unique person one of kind would be so much better if for this and that you know more like the worlds idea of perfection where success is measured by the duckets in the bank but if I were to wager the people with the real power are those that can consist of nothing no air no love even trapped to break free and make a come back against the toxic power manipulating minds...

And if that is true then we will never know, because humility prevents them from flaunting that power. We live in a world where those who speak the loudest move the herd.

I don't disagree we have a lot of ways of speaking that have little to do with the words or sounds we make the cavemen of days past could grunt loud I hear that didn't not save them from a meteor...

Thank you for reading and the feedback. Ive done a lot of things I'm not too proud of for love... and I always thought love was the answer...for everything.

I know exactly what you’re talking about.
Love is the answer. The thing is, it starts with loving yourself.
Think of it like oxygen masks on an airplane…

That was a quoute from an snti drug advert back in the day... only replace the word love with drugs. Thought it fit with the theme of the poem.
However you are right. Self love must come first but I have had a lifelong struggle with it. Instead of mastering it, I have turned to so many different coping mechanisms that only serve to mask the problem while exacerbating it.

As much as we try to kick this habit… we fall in again and again… we’re idiots…. Sorry I was talking about myself… good luck y’all

No apology needed on my end if you had said lies about me...different story. The truth may hurt at times, but one should never apologize for honesty.

Yes being honest with yourself aids your self esteem and allows you to know yourself better.
