The Lady Blue (The Crush)

How it all got started, I couldn't rightly say. All I remember now is how infatuated I was with this older man, Michael Eugene Maupin, who was my parents good friend before they died in a horrible boating incident. He was, in all truth, the most handsome man I had ever seen. I will never forget that boyish grin of his when I first saw him the afternoon he came through our front door carrying not one, but two bottles of fine wine. He lost no time in congratulating my parents on their tenth year wedding anniversary.
They thanked him and inquired as to where his lovely wife, Carol, was as she had not come along with him. Gary told them that she was home getting ready for tonight's anniversary party and he would run back home to get her later.

I loved Gary's voice and how eloquent his words always seemed. They were magic to my ears. I was truly mesmerized with this man.
And so even though I was quite young and knew nothing of love, my life became filled with excitement. It's important that you know that Gary did nothing to encourage my school girl crush on him. He was a perfect gentleman. All he did was smile my way and wink at me upon occasion.
