O Ode to you
O ode to you, the silly shoe
Who fitith so tight around my toe
Sole proprietor, one and all!
O ode to you the lazy hoe
Who slouches next to the good earth
Sole investor, tales told!
A twinkle in the eye
A twinkle in the sky
Something just a little out of sight
Wisdom in the air, mischief in the mind
Taught by golden, greying hair
O ode to you who work the earth
I hear the birds they tell their tales
Tell me what it is, they say of me?
Please be quick, I haven’t long
It yearns away once again!
Father Time he strides!
Farewell, farewell!
I hear you silly shoe, but how I doth protest!
For we have many miles left to tread
At least whilst I still draw my breath
And carry on, and carry on!
O ode to you
Sole shoe
You must heed my commands
When I demand
Regardless of mud, regardless of rain
Bounding in verse across any terrain
Weeping and talking and spinning the weave
Singing and laughing and dancing the way
To you, strong seams!
To you, tight fit!
Toe first, follow me!
O ode to you, staying strong, the path is long
Not now! Farewell!
O ode to you
For love, a tale must be told, you silly, silly shoe
O ode to you
