Unconditonal Love

 
love I've found comes at an emotional cost
when your heart is open and honest it can be beautiful
no one is perfect however
and no one gets along together all of the time

storms will come and they will go
unconditional love surprises me
to be loved no matter what, a shock

earlier in life emotional price tags prove too costly, for my broken soul
be the perfect kid
or your debt is due
get out, we no longer love you

I still struggle today with insecurity
thinking you will only love me if I remain beautiful to look at
you're my best friend whose love has endured

we're having a tough time now
but you showed me real love perseveres
it doesn't just go away unless you starve it

I have been guilty of not giving you my all
I wasn't  really sure you desired me to my core
you've proven me wrong yet again

not everyone is a month-to-month love tenant
ready to evict you should you prove to be faulty
I love you and I'm grateful

you've given me a family
