Watching the Ivy Grow
I know the nature of your mind
Obsessive planning, minutes gained and hours trashed
My name gets lost in traffic
But nevermind the flowers, chocolates, or intricately scripted card
There’s an old, old house I recall
We used to pass it by
Perfect cobble walls, and cedar planks saturated with the scent of abandonment
It is a familiar smell we both know
I want to see a smile slip because I’m funny
I crave afternoons and evenings of an embrace that speaks skin to skin “you are safe now”
.. Even breathing next to you would be enough for me
So it’s time we pay the house a visit
So we can watch the ivy grow up mossy walls
Take note of the regrowth, as we declutter ourselves in the process
I promise you, we need this
Take my hand, I’ll guide you there
Be present, here, with me.
