Remember

These memories left their impression
Molding me into this personality
—This version of myself
Defining my humanity

Some are powerful, and yet quite fickle
Vivid, detailed echos
Nostalgic call and response
Casts a grin from ear to ear, as I once did

Others macabre, sorrowful;
Remembrances of painful moments
Soul-crushing heartbreaks
Remorseful regrets

Two sides of the same coin
In a coin-purse of emotions
Those I wish to forget
Ones I never can

Many are inherited,
Passing the torch of life
Human experiences; knowledge
Illuminating and guiding our futures

Even more are forgotten,
Shrouded and obscured from recollection
Gradually fragmented
Into eventual oblivion

I cling to all my memories,
Like a lost child would their mother
Pleasant and agonizing alike;
Preserving my Self until the close

Author's Note
Remembered some pleasant memories with an old friend. Got me thinking about all my old memories; the good, the bad, that wonderful feeling of nostalgia that comes with them. Hope you enjoy :)
