Callie's Journals and Her Husband's Trust

March 21, 2024

This morning I’m holding Callie's journal, given to me by her grieving husband. I feel the weight of her absence as I begin to read her words. Memories of her vibrant life flood my mind. Callie lived fiercely (some would say wildly) embracing love in its many forms. Yet, in her faithful union with her husband of six years, she found solace and completeness.

As I sift through the pages, I'm struck by the intimacy and honesty of her thoughts. It’s a testament to her trust in me that he's passed this treasure into my hands. All her life passions, most intimate moments, and her devotions are now open before me.

Her husband said he hoped this might be a way to see her memories live on. He said he’d never read from her journal and didn’t want to but if something of her joys, sorrows, and even her most intimate moments are captured in my writing, it would be a way for her to continue in some form of existence.

And so I’ll begin to select little bits of her life to mix into my writing.

Author's Note
Sharing my journal entry. I'm beginning to read Callie's words on the same day that we celebrate her life and spread some of her ashes. Along with the journal, her husband gave me a box and of prints and a jump drive. He said some of them he hasn't seen. I edited this one from one of the digital pics.
