Golden you

In each of world religion teachings
Among all the self-righteous preaching
I find some things I think are true
This one is: there’s a golden you

There is a you who loves to live
To care, to love and freely give
The highest truths for which you long
Are just covered, they are not gone

The world told you you are a sinner
They programmed you to be a “winner”
For a dog eats dog world
They covered the true you with dirt

But you don’t have to be this way
For inside you there is a sun
That waits for you to set it free
That longs to shine on everyone

This is what we all truly are
Each one of us a shining star
Whose light helps others find the way
Out of deep night to brightest day

For it is as the Buddhists say
I really believe this is true
Remember when you lose your way

Deep inside there’s a golden you
